    Churches:

    Saint Urban’s Church – baroque- built in the 16th century

    Saint Bartholomew’s Church – The Great Church on the Main Square ( baroque – based on a 13th century building)

    Franciscan Church and Monastery- ( in the baroque building you can find one of the oldest and continuously functioning middle-aged Franciscan order library of Hungary.)

    Greek Orthodox Church

    The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk ( Kálvária)- The baroque chapel was constructed in 1721 gained its present appearance in the first part of the 19th century.

    Reformed Church

    Treasury of the Saint Bartholomew’s Church- It was built in 1784.This is the second richest and most considerable church exhibition of Hungary.

    Saint Elisabeth Church

    Monuments:

    Main Square – Four fountains can be seen here with the four symbols of the coat of arms of Gyöngyös , the Sun, the Moon , the wolf and grapes. The renewed ancient well situated in the south depicts the coat of arms of the twin cities of Gyöngyös.

    Gyöngyös Lido – It has alkali hydrogen carbonated medicinal water consisting silicic acid as well , which cures certain skin disease, rheumatic, gastric and nervous diseases.

    Town Sports Hall – The building is suitable for national and international sport events . It is featured by the unique roof structure and 60 centimetres wide walls.

    Kálmán Könyves Square – The statue of Lajos Kossuth

    The statue of Hussar Looking At His Sword – at the crossing of Jókai and Zsigmond Móricz

    Synagogue - The huge, splendid building is constructed by Lipót Baumhorn and György Somogyi.In the centre of the synagogue we can see the large dome.

    János Pátzay Music School – The former Jesuit grammar school was built in 1752.The reconstruction was made between 1782-1783 by Károly Rábl now houses the music school of the town.

    – The narrow-gauge railway runs to Mátrafüred and Lajosháza ( Szalajkaház) through the picturesque forest.

    Museums

    The Mátra Museum – The Orczy Castle - renovated in 2007 – houses Hungary’s second largest natural science exhibition with a completely preserved mammoth skeleton.

    Palóc Ethnographic Private Collection and Exhibition of Palóc Dolls

    The permanent exhibition of paintings by Lipót Hermann and a unique coin collection are on display in the Grassalkovich House at 2 Main Square.
